Short Description:Anyone who has ever suffered through the experience of losing some kind of needed data from their computer knows all too well the need for creating up-to-date backups of all important information that is stored on their computer(s). As it is, however, only the most expensive, cutting edge systems have the capability to provide up-to-the-second data backups. The reality for the rest of us is that if we even bother to make a backup, it will generally be a one-time thing. Fortunately, technology is at a point where it boasts that virtually no lost data is irretrievable.
Description:

Immediate Data Recovery

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you accidentally hit the wrong key, or key combinations on your computer, causing you to lose everything that you had been working on? It happens to all of us at one time or another. The worst thing to do in this type of situation is panic or become enraged. In fact, most computers have a series of safety features that take such accidental happenings into account, giving the user options through which he/she might be able to recover their lost data.

If you accidentally lose your data through a word processor program such as Microsoft Word, stop typing immediately! With such programs, the more tasks you perform after losing your data, the less likely the chances that you will be able to recover the lost data. (As a general rule of thumb, you should get into the habit of constantly saving your documents, so as to account for any kind of unfortunate loss of data) Another option with lost data within a program is checking the edit features of the program, some of which allow you to undo recent actions, such as the deletion of content. (Some programs allow you to go back an infinitesimal number of times in terms of the history of your actions whereas other programs will only afford you the luxury of 1 or 2)

Generally speaking, there are 2 main types of data recovery. These types are as follows:

  • Software / Viral Problems- If you have lost certain pieces of data due to software problems or contraction of a computer virus, there are steps that can be taken to restore the lost data, assuming that it hasn't been permanently erased due to the software / viral problem. If the data in question is textual, then there is a greater chance that it can be recovered (at least in part) than say a binary file, due to the fact that it only takes one misplaced byte to corrupt a program.
  • Hardware Problems / Physical Damage to Disk- The sad fact that must be realized in terms of physical damage to the hard disk is that there is no software program that can have any effect on it. When it comes to lost data that is the result of some kind of hardware problem, more often than not, the only way that all or some of your lost data may be recovered is through the intervention of an expensive 'clean room' technician who can basically take your computer apart piece by piece so as to find the origin of the failure. This type of service is available through Data Recovery Labs.
